Daughter of Fortune: Summary 1

I'm not one who has a great judgement on books, but I have begun to develop my opinions about this book called The Daughter of Fortune by Isabel Allende. It begins with this young woman named Eliza Sommers who is recalling the details of her arrival at the Sommers' household. The Sommers family includes Rose, Jeremy, John, and an addition of Eliza. Jeremy and John are both brothers and Rose is their sister who found Eliza in the crate outside their door. She couldn't resist taking her in and raising her as her own child. Rose treated Eliza more of a toy than a daughter because she liked to dress her up and make her learn many new things. One day, Eliza threw a tantrum because she didn't want to practice piano and Rose made her feel guilty by telling her to be thankful her and her brother took her in, or she'd be at the convent. I felt bad for Eliza, not only because Rose mad her feel bad, but because she is being forced to do things she doesn't really care for. So far in this book, I have learned a lot about what kind of people these characters are and how they feel towards Eliza. I guess I'll have to continue on to see how things will work out for Eliza!
